The aftermath of the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria continues to generate controversy, with differing opinions and reactions from various quarters. Notably, Nigerian writer Chimamanda Adichie’s open letter to US President Joe Biden urging him not to accept the result of the election due to alleged discrepancies and irregularities during the polls has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians.

One such reaction came from Femi Fani Kayode, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who expressed his disapproval of Adichie’s letter to the US president. In a statement, Fani Kayode criticized Adichie for seeking validation from foreign leaders and referred to her as having “Uncle Tom credentials”, a term often used to describe someone who is perceived as betraying their own people for personal gain.

Fani Kayode further questioned Adichie’s patriotism, stating that seeking foreign validation and reporting fellow Nigerians to foreign leaders is unacceptable to him. He emphasized that anyone who lacks respect for their own people and nation, and resorts to seeking external validation, is unworthy of being called a human being, let alone a Nigerian.
